“Naruto: Shippuden” Collectible Card Game Shonen Jump Championships

Bandai America Inc. (Bandai) and VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media) are pleased to announce the new Naruto: Shippuden Collectible Card Game (CCG) Shonen Jump Championship Tournaments in North America. There will be multiple tournaments held throughout the United States at select hobby retailers culminating in the National Championships to be held at the Gen Con Indy to take place in Indiana on August 7th and 8th.

Naruto: Shippuden CCG, Bandai America’s top selling collectible card game, is a game of strategy where players construct card decks of Ninja that use their powerful Jutsu to complete Missions and protect their villages. The Naruto: Shippuden CCG currently has hundreds of tournaments held each week at local hobby retailers throughout the United States.

Shonen Jump Championship Tournaments will be accessible to Naruto fans, beginners and experienced CCG players. Experienced players will test their skills against other players in the Shonen Jump Championship Tournaments to win special prizes. New players may redeem special coupons found in Shonen Jump magazine and receive a free Naruto: Shippuden CCG demo kit. Bandai volunteers will also be on location to teach new players how to play. Naruto fans will have the opportunity to receive special Shonen Jump promo cards through special promotions and attendance at the tournaments. U.S. Troops Overseas Set to Receive “Mass Effect: Redemption”

In conjunction with the release of the third explosive issue of Mass Effect: Redemption, Dark Horse Comics announced today that they will be donating 5,000 copies of the first issue of this popular series, which has sold out across the country, to U.S. Armed Forces troops around the world.

Dark Horse will work with Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) to ensure that these issues of Mass Effect: Redemption make it into the hands of the men and women serving in the U.S. military throughout the world. Every year publishers’ donations of Free Comic Book Day issues are sent to troops via PMG, this time the annual payload will be stocked with thousands of issues of Mass Effect: Redemption #1 for America’s fighting men and women. Copies will make their way to military personnel stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as at bases in Europe and the Far East.

Star Wars: 2010 Toy Fair Wrap Up

This past week saw New York City welcome Toy Fair. The Official Star Wars Blog was there, actively reporting on all of the amazing new products unveiled at the show. Here are some of the highlights, in case you missed it.

Mega AT-AT on the North Ridge!
Hasbro wowed many with a slew of new products, including Clone Wars and Vintage action figures, a flying Millennium Falcon, and the long overdue issue of a rocket-firing classic Boba Fett figure. But the big draw was an enormous AT-AT walker designed for 3 3/4-inch action figures packed to the armored plate with all sorts of play features.

Bricks for Clones and Empire
LEGO’s new assortments celebrate both The Empire Strikes Back and The Clone Wars, with standouts like a new wampa playset and a clone turbo tank.

We Need the Funko, Give up the Funko
Funko surprises and delights with new Star Wars character lamps and bobble-heads that turn Star Wars characters into classic monsters. Spoooky!

Now there’s a new way to enjoy Star Wars: Trench Run, the addictive game that puts you behind the stick of an X-wing fighter during the climactic Battle of Yavin. Infrared5 and Lucasfilm have developed a web-version of the game playable at StarWars.com. You’ll need the Unity game engine to start, which is available free here.

Trench Run includes high altitude dogfights between X-wings and TIEs far above the surface of the Death Star, as well as the famous attack run on the Imperial battle station’s vulnerable exhaust port. Use your keyboard and mouse to fly your fighter and target and blast enemies. The game includes rich 3-D graphics, authentic Lucasfilm sound effects, and the classic John Williams musical score. The iTunes Trench Run Game Now Better Than Ever:

Our friends at Infrared5 have also been steadily improving their original Trench Run game for the iPhone and iPod Touch, and have listened carefully to user feedback. The most recent version has a number of improvements. As they describe:

“In addition to fixing some irritating bugs in the game, we also listened to what our users were most frustrated with, and have addressed them in the latest release. Calibration was the number one request, and we’ve added it to the latest release. Others mentioned that the cannons were too easy, so we made them harder as well. Even though we didn’t originally intend the game to work on the first gen iPhone, and were really pushing the boundaries with performance in such a fast 3-D game, with the latest release we were able to make the game run flawlessly on 1st gen iPhone, 3G and the first gen iPod touch.”
