It’s fitting that Ralph Bakshi is known for his take on Mighty Mouse, because in a world where animation is still perceived as being mostly for kids, here he comes to save the day.\u00a0Wizards<\/em>, his darker, racier take on Tolkien fantasy, sees release as a 35th anniversary Blu-ray today, and\u00a0we’re giving two of them away<\/strong><\/a>. But we also got an earful from the ever-entertaining auteur in\u00a0a no-holds-barred interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n

NN: Back in 2008 there was some talk of doing a\u00a0Wizards<\/em>\u00a0sequel. Is that still in the works?<\/strong><\/p>\n

RB:<\/strong>\u00a0I wanna do a sequel because it was written for a sequel; it was written as a trilogy. I had just finished reading\u00a0Lord of the Rings<\/em>\u00a0when I wrote\u00a0Wizards<\/em>…I think it’s another franchise like\u00a0Rings<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>. But I won’t do it for a million dollars – I need a budget that’s bigger than a million. I’ll take a million and a half.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>NN: Was it a struggle for the PG rating at the time, or have we just backslid in what we tolerate?<\/strong><\/p>\n

RB:<\/strong>\u00a0No, because basically they were just happy to see me stop cursing! I’m dead serious – they were so happy, they thought I’d reformed, that I’d changed my wicked ways from\u00a0Hey Good Lookin<\/em>‘ and\u00a0Traffic<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Street Fight<\/em>…they were so pleased I was doing fairy tales that they let it slide. I don’t know how the hell I got away with that.<\/p>\n
