“Star Wars” Celebration V Announced!

Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and the ongoing, weekly adventures of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Reed Exhibitions’ PopGroup will partner to produce what’s expected to be one of the largest official Star Wars fan events ever — featuring cast and crew celebrities, fan-run events, costumes, music, live entertainment, screenings, autographs, collectibles, panels and sneak peaks into the future of Star Wars.

Star Wars Celebration V will take place August 12-15, 2010, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. A website, starwarscelebration.com, is dedicated exclusively to the event, and tickets to Star Wars Celebration V will be available for purchase online starting Thursday, December 10th. As always, Celebration will bring together the best of the Star Wars universe in one exciting, dynamic event!

“We’re going to have a blast commemorating the 30th anniversary of fan-favorite The Empire Strikes Back as we welcome an entire new generation of fans watching our animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” said Steve Sansweet, Lucasfilm’s head of Fan Relations. “There’s no doubt that Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando will be the ‘must attend’ event for Star Wars fans of all ages and from all parts of the galaxy,” he added. “We’re also very excited to launch our partnership with Reed PopGroup, which has shown great expertise in running large, fun-filled events that satisfy fans, show participants, and exhibitors. Tickets will be available starting Thursday, December 10th via starwarscelebration.com. Pre-sale Adult Four-Day Passes are $120; Kids Four-Day Passes are $50; pre-sale Thursday, Friday, and Sunday Passes are $45; Saturday Passes are $50; and Kids One-Day Passes are $25. Children under six years old are admitted free.
Limited VIP Packages are expected to be available in early 2010, with details to be announced on the website. Single or Four-Day Passes already purchased can be upgraded to VIP status as long as supplies last!

Second “Browncoats: Redemption” Trailer

The fan-funded film is set shortly after the events of Serenity, when the Alliance’s power and standing in the ‘verse has been shaken by the announcement of what took place on Miranda. Browncoats: Redemption expands the lore of the ‘verse by following the crew of the ship Redemption, self-professed Browncoats who’ve “kept their noses clean” — until now.

Planned for a 2010 release, with its unveiling at next year’s DragonCon in Atlanta, the Browncoats: Redemption team hopes to not only fuel interest in the Firefly ‘verse but raise funds for charities. 100% of the film’s proceeds (after production costs) will be split between the charities Equality Now, Kids Need to Read, The Dyslexia Foundation, The Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center and Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation. Early projections based on previous Firefly/Serenity related DVD sales have the filmmakers hoping to donate upwards of $80,000 to each charity (based on a $15 DVD price tag).

Looney Labs produces lots of great games that are fun to play. One of their most popular, Fluxx, has been updated with a new release and new art work, but the same great fun. Additional versions of Fluxx include: Martian Fluxx, Monty Python Fluxx, Zombie Fluxx, EcoFluxx and Family Fluxx.

Battlestar Galactica, based on the hugely popular recent series, is a semi-cooperative board game for 3-6 players.

Emilie Ullerup Joins the Cast of Riese!

Emilie Ullerup, best known for her role as Ashley Magnus on Syfy’s Sanctuary, has officially joined the cast of the new hit web series Riese the Series. Ryan Copple, co-creator of Riese, commented on how excited the Riese team is that she’s joining the show and how excited she was to be coming on board. Her character, Aliza — a revolutionary and companion of Rand — will appear in Chapter 2 of Riese which begins filming in two weeks in Vancouver.

Born in Denmark and traveling the world while growing up, Ullerup always wanted to be an actress. This led her to British Columbia where she graduated from the Vancouver Film School in 2005. After graduation she appeared in series such as Battlestar Galactica and Blood Ties before landing the role of Ashley Magnus on the web series Sanctuary. While Sanctuary was in post-production she was cast in a lead role on the TV series jPod, based on the Douglas Coupland novel of the same name. Her role as Kaitlin on jPod won her a Leo Award for Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series in 2008. While jPod was critically acclaimed and a real hit with the target audience (one of the MOST DOWNLOADED shows of 2008), CBC did not order up a second season of jPod and left audiences with a cliffhanger ending regarding her character.

About this same time, Sanctuary had not only become a hit on the web, it was picked up by several television networks, including Syfy and Space, and reformatted to a one-hour weekly TV series where Ullerup reprised her role as Ashley. More recently, Ullerup appeared as Catherine “Cat” Grant on Smallville and has a small role in the upcoming sci-fi film Paradox, based on the popular graphic novel from writer Christos N. Gage (published by Arcana Comics).

Riese the Series marks her return to the medium that won her scores of fans to begin with: the web.

Riese is a sci-fi/fantasy series richly influenced by history, mythology, folklore and steampunk. It follows a young woman and her companion, a wolf named Fenrir, who travel through a collapsing world trying to piece together the fragmented memories of her past while attempting to evade the dangerous religious cult that hunts her. With a high budget compared to other web series, and filmed on the RED camera in high definition, the show is visually beautiful. The wardrobe, music and depth of story all contribute to creating the world of Eleysia.

Peter Kelamis Joins the Cast of Riese!

Actor and comedian Peter Kelamis has joined the cast of the new fantasy web series Riese. Currently seen as Adam Brody on Stargate Universe, Kelamis has appeared in nearly 100 projects including film, television and voice work in cartoons and video games. Details are forthcoming, but according to series co-creator Ryan Copple, Kelamis will be playing the role of Ormand.

Riese the Series premiered simultaneously on YouTube and KoldCast.TV on November 2nd. With nearly 70,000 views on YouTube so far, Riese has caught the attention of big media outlets including The New York Times and The Globe and Mail, as well as other traditional sci-fi outlets such as Sci-Fi Talk and GateWorld. The premiere episode got so many hits when it launched that YouTube quickly contacted Copple about adding Riese as one of their featured shows, and it’s also a featured show on KoldCast.TV.

Barriss Offee Speaks

This week, The Clone Wars introduces a new character to the ranks of the Jedi Order. Barriss Offee was first glimpsed in Episode II, Attack of the Clones, and now is given the spotlight on an important mission to destroy a Separatist droid factory. Actor Meredith Salenger talks about her role as Barriss Offee.

First, how did you find yourself voicing “Dependable Barriss,” as Ahsoka calls her, in The Clone Wars series?

Although I started acting in film when I was only 10 years old, I never even knew about voice-over acting until three years ago. I was so thrilled once I finally understood how the whole voice-over thing works and started loving playing animated characters! I also have been obsessed with accents and foreign languages since I was little and always practiced my English accent and my Australian accent incessantly. So when the audition came up for Barriss Offee, I was ready to put my skills to use. And I feel so grateful to be part of the cast and more importantly, the Star Wars universe!

So far, our exposure to Padawans in The Clone Wars has been pretty much limited to Ahsoka. In “Weapons Factory,” we get a rare glimpse of the relationship between a different master and apprentice. How would you compare the Barriss/Luminara relationship to that of Ahsoka/Anakin?

Well, Barris Offee’s Jedi Master is Luminara Unduli who is very by-the-book and ordered. As her loyal student, Barriss tends to be just as ordered in her approach to dealing with situations. There is a great amount of respect that Barriss affords Luminara. She is definitely her subordinate and their relationship is very formal. Whereas, there is a lot of familiarity between Ahsoka and Anakin. He even calls her by a cute nickname, “Snips.” I think he allows her to give a lot of input. I don’t think Barriss would ever presume to tell Luminara what she thought was best. However, I think that the more time Barriss spends with Ahsoka, she learns to improvise a bit more and trust her own instincts as opposed to always having to follow the rules exactly.
