In this volume, The Gokage Summit commences, and the five leaders of the strongest villages in the ninja world meet to discuss the fate of their universe and how to deal with the ever-looming threat of the rogue organization, the Akatsuki. Plans are made that will affect Naruto deeply. The new Hokage, the leader of Naruto’s village, is not afraid to make the final end move against Naruto’s old pal, Sasuke!

Naruto’s rage brings forth the Nine-Tailed Fox, but at great risk to both himself and those he cares for the most. With Naruto’s rampage quelled, the team continues on to Orochimaru’s lair to find Sasuke, but the mysterious Sai has disappeared. Could one of their own be planning the ultimate betrayal?

VIZ Media’s Shonen Jump magazine also celebrates Naruto in its October edition, available now on newsstands, and online! ElfQuest Fan Film – “Take 2”

from ElfQuest:

Some of you may recall that a while back, there was a valiant attempt at an ElfQuest Fan Film that, for various unforeseen reasons, didn’t come to completion.

Now, the project has been resurrected — or rather, recreated anew. A wonderfully enthusiastic group of film folk based in Los Angeles recently approached us with the idea of making a “teaser trailer” for an imagined ElfQuest movie — and it took us all of half a second to say “yes!” This is very real, and it’s very close to happening on a fast track. All the details are here.

Disclaimer: This project is not affiliated with Warner Bros., which is currently considering a full-length ElfQuest film. It’s a fan film, done with love and solely in the hope that it will help spread elf-awareness further than ever.

So visit these folks’ site, and become a part. We’ll see you at the movies!

Shade and sweet involvement,
Richard Pini

“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” Coming to Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD & Digital Download on November 9, 2010

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

from Universal Studios:

Inventive visuals, endearing performances and a genre-smashing style define Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, the critically acclaimed, action-comedy coming to Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD November 9th from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. In the movie, cutting-edge filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) directs Michael Cera (Juno, Superbad) and an incredible ensemble cast in the story of a charming, unemployed bass player who discovers that in order to date the girl of his dreams, he must first battle her seven super-powered, evil exes.

Both the Blu-ray and DVD come loaded with deleted scenes, laugh-out-loud bloopers and cast commentaries assembled by director, producer and co-writer Edgar Wright. The 2-disc Blu-ray Combo Pack is packed with hours of additional in-depth bonus features; a Blu-ray and DVD copy of film; and for a limited time only, a digital copy of the movie that can be viewed on an array of electronic and portable devices anytime, anywhere. Joining lead actor Michael Cera is one of the coolest ensemble casts ever to share the big screen including Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Live Free or Die Hard), Kieran Culkin (Igby Goes Down), Chris Evans (upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger), Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick (Twilight series, Up in the Air), Alison Pill (Dan in Real Life), Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation), Brandon Routh (Superman), Jason Schwartzman (Funny People), Johnny Simmons (Jennifer’s Body), Mark Webber (Broken Flowers), Mae Whitman (Parenthood) and Ellen Wong (Runaway). Scott Pilgrim vs. the World also boasts an awesome soundtrack featuring original music by Beck and performances by Broken Social Scene, Metric and more.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the Critics

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World slayed critics of every generation with its highly stylized visuals. The New York Times’ A.O. Scott raves “You may want to see it again as soon as it’s over.” Jeremy Smith of AintItCoolNews calls the film “Wholly original. There’s never been a movie like it” and Rossiter Drake of the San Francisco Examiner pronounces it a “bold, brilliant spectacle.” Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is “far and away the funniest movie of the summer,” according to the Orlando Sentinel’s Roger Moore, and Peter Travers of Rolling Stone calls the film “a breathless rush of a movie that jumps off the screen, spins your head around and then stealthily works its way into your heart. It’s a game changer.”

Synopsis
Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for totally average garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams… literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart’s ass — and now is back in town — to the teenage distraction he’s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn’t been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor. As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues’ gallery from her past — from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsomely identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.

It’s Tolkien Week and we’re celebrating by running around the office barefoot and drinking ale in pints. PINTS! Today it’s Bilbo and Frodo’s birthdays and we’ve got a big cake with a spread of all sorts of mushroom-related dishes. (It’s often said a hobbit is a fungi. You are what you eat!) Then there will be dancing and singing and partying until the wee hours of the night.

Good thing we have monkey robots running the warehouse because otherwise, we might forget your order. *hic*

The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force (Vault Edition)

Product Description:
The Jedi Path, Fully Illustrated, with Removable Features and a Mechanical Vault

With the push of a button, the doors of the vault open in a wash of light and Star Wars sound effects. The inner platform rises, revealing this exclusive edition of The Jedi Path.

This ancient training manual, crafted by early Jedi Masters, has educated and enlightened generations of Jedi. It explains the history and hierarchy of the Jedi Order, and what Jedi must know to take their place as defenders of the peace in the galaxy — from mastery of the Force to the nuances of lightsaber combat.

Passed down from Master to Padawan, the pages of this venerable text have been annotated by those who have held it, studied it, and lived its secrets. From Yoda and Luke Skywalker to Count Dooku and Darth Sidious, they have shaped the content of the book by leaving mementos tucked within the pages, tearing out pages, and adding their personal experiences as tangible reminders of the lessons they’ve learned.

Through wars and rebellion, only a single copy of this manual has survived. It is now passed on to you.

The ancient Masters who wrote the text: Fae Coven, Grand Master and head of the Jedi Council; Crix Sunburris, Jedi Ace starfighter pilot; Restelly Quist, Jedi Chief Librarian; Skarch Vaunk, Jedi Battlemaster and lightsaber expert; Bowspritz, Jedi Biologist and expert on the Living Force; Sabla-Mandibu, Jedi Seer and Holocron expert; Morrit Ch’gally, Jedi Recruiter; Gal-Stod Slagistrough, Jedi leader of the Agricultural Corps.

Jedi who added personal commentary: Yoda, Thame Cerulian, Count Dooku, Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Darth Sidious, and Luke Skywalker.

Removable features: A letter tracing the book’s history, a severed Padawan braid, a metal Jedi Credit medallion, a Jedi starfighter patch, a burned poster of the Jedi Code, a map of the Jedi Temple, a lightsaber diagram sketched on the back of a napkin from Dex’s Diner, and a note on the missing pages torn from the book by a Sith.

Created in collaboration with Lucasfilm — along with an acclaimed Star Wars author and revered Star Wars illustrators — this volume provides new insights into the history and lore of the Jedi Order while introducing never-before-seen ships, creatures, characters, and details about how one trains to become a Jedi.

News that Squishes: Platypus, Cthulhu and Owl

from Squishable:

Hello Folks!

If you were jumping up and down on your bed (past your bedtime and against your parents wishes, no less!), then you wouldn’t want that mattress to be stuffed with hard cement-like news! No! You’d want your gleeful disobedience in the form of bouncy, jumpy Squishy News! And here it is!

New Squishables — oh my gosh yes yes yes! You voted for them last year, and it’s taken them a while to make the long journey, but here’s the first round!

Squishable Owl — Who wouldn’t gladly sacrifice an occasional small squeaky mammal for something this cuddly? I know I would. Perfect for hours of “Hoo’s on first” puns.

Squishable Platypus — Yes they look ridiculous — but hey, think how you must look to them, you weird hairless biped! Cuddle an evolutionary cul-de-sac!

Squishable Cthulhu — A horrific elder god to snuggle with! Freakish monstrosities from the dawn of time give the best hugs. Incidentally, if you don’t know what a Cthulhu is then go read up on your Lovecraft. Right now!

Back-in-stock Squishables! These are totally back in stock and waiting with bated breath to discover their final destination! A playful office cubical? A bright bedspread? The stomach of your family dog? Don’t keep them in suspense! Hedgehog, Penguin, Octopus, and Snail Squishables are all back and good to go!

It’s been a charity kinda month!

First off, thanks to everyone who bid on the Squishable Dragon auction! Way to raise a chunk of cash for Child’s Play — some kids in hospitals who didn’t have toys… will now!

Second of all, thanks to everyone who sent in pictures over the last few months to help support GirlStart for empowering girls in math, science and tech! Techy, sciency girls are awesome, not that I’m biased or anything (says the CS major).

And for the next little while, for every image you send us of you and your Squishy, we’ll donate a dollar to Studio in a School to support art in public schools! How cool? Very! (Up to $250)

Oh, and… the Fuzzy Five are coming.

Thanks folks!

Dangerous Dorks: Say No to Nerd Rage!

from GeekChicDaily:

View the shocking video The Empire doesn’t want you to see…

Once, Nerd Rage could bubble over in a Kirk Vs. Picard debate or a Ditko Vs. Lee message board discussion. In the past, such anger manifested itself as an overturned Mountain Dew glass or a ridiculous internet flame war. These days, though, you’d best watch your back around the nerd herd.

Time was that the nastiest thing you’d see happening at a comic convention was Trekkers making sarcastic remarks towards Twi-Hards. No more. At this year’s Comic-Con, an argument over Hall H seating resulted in a now-infamous eye-gouge.

And physical violence isn’t the only danger. At an Arizona comic convention, a puppet troup tried to stage a skit involving a Stormtrooper and a Na’vi. Suddenly, an over-zealous sci-fi fan came down on them like a fetid rain of curdled blue milk (fun starts at :45).

More norms are coming over to the geekside every day, friends. It’s getting crowded. Has it really gotten to where nerds need to pack heat for protection? No way. Here’s why: firearms can accidentally discharge and shoot fellow Avatar fans. In real life, there are no extra lives. Say No to Nerd Rage!

Breadpig: n00b! Asian Adventure! Colbert!

from Breadpig:

Ahoy, Breadpig legionnaire!

We know it’s only been two weeks since we’ve written, but it’s been an action-packed time and we didn’t want you to fall behind on the news!

The observant among you may have noticed that the last briefing had TWO signatures at the bottom instead of just one. That’s because as of a few weeks ago, Breadpig officially has a new employee! Christina Xu has joined on to help steer our porky hero towards greater heights of do-goodery and generally improve awesome levels in the world. If you have any questions for Christina, please ask her!

One of the first missions that our largest-ever Breadpig team will tackle is an epic voyage to South Asia in October to visit, observe, and document the work Room to Read is doing with the $85,460 we’ve donated to them. Both Alexis and Christina will visit the Laos Room to Read office as well as the XKCD school Breadpig built in Salavan, Laos. Then, Christina will continue solo to the RTR programs in Hanoi, Vietnam; Colombo, Sri Lanka; and Kathmandu and Bariya, Nepal to find out how our other funded projects (and Room to Read in general) are getting along. We’ll be posting an official itinerary soon — please contact us if you have advice, requests, suggestions for great organizations to team up with in the future, or the ability to meet up for a drink anywhere along the way!

Finally, Breadpig joined in Reddit’s efforts to create the largest fundraiser for DonorsChoose ever to convince Stephen Colbert to have a rally in DC. We donated $1776.63 to the campaign to celebrate Reddit breaking the $30,000 mark (Hilary Clinton’s record over the last 3 years!) in less than 24 hours, and in return Mr. Colbert wrote us a little letter. We are proud (and starstruck) beyond words!

Breadpig doubled in size as a company, is going to visit Room to Read sites in Laos/Vietnam/Sri Lanka/Nepal in October, donated $1776.63 to DonorsChoose to congratulate Redditors on generating over $30k in less than 24 hours.

Love and crusty bacon,
Alexis and Christina

(P.S. This Sunday, November 19th, is Talk Like a Pirate Day. We hope you observe this holiest of days.)

ThinkGeek rocks the coin-op & takes $10 off

from ThinkGeek:

Greetings, Literate Beings of Earth!

What a busy weekend! We sent Timmy clones to Dragon*Con and PAX and then it was off to the outer rim to pick up the latest shipment from the Hoth Department of Natural Resources. After that, a quick joy ride in the DeLorean to the coin-op Golden Age, and on the way home we fought a Balrog for some barware (souvenirs, you know).

At least we had something to read on the trip: the Hugo Award winners were announced at AussieCon 4. Props to them and thanks for making this plane of existence a little more existable!

Retro Atari Wall Decals
Live the game, and make it old school. Back in the day, when ancient geeks wanted to get their game on, it required pockets laden with coins, a good belt to prevent said laden pants from falling off, and a journey to a magical place called an arcade. In this darkened room were monoliths that bleeped and blooped and glowed with pixelated goodness. Ah, the halcyon days before game-quality was measured in voxels! Everything was simple, but still fun. Were you there, friend? Remember those days with vinyl decals that make your living space look like the games you loved. Fill your room with Asteroids, Centipede or Pong, no quarters necessary. Atari represent! All that’s missing is the coin slot.

$10 off your $30+ order with code PONG
Having these Atari Wall Graphics around is making us all nostalgic for the days when the world was simpler. You were a bunch of squares shooting squares at other squares. If you lean back in your ergonomic desk chair and reminisce about days of yore, use code PONG for $10 off a $30 order, good through 9/10/10 at 11:59 PM ET.
