RiffTrax: Our riff of “Avatar” is now available!

from RiffTrax:

By now, everyone knows the story of how Avatar single-handedly changed moviemaking forever. Its visionary director (whose name escapes us, you know the one, he’s that guy who didn’t win an Oscar this year) proved that progressive films can succeed in today’s marketplace. As long as progressive means “completely unoriginal and devoid of depth” and the high praise heaped upon the work is entirely based upon it being nice to look at. In this sense, Megan Fox is a progressive actress, and The Hills was the most important television show of the last 10 years. It is truly a bold, experimental piece of work, keeping in mind that crystal meth and fat substitute Olestra (which brought the phrase “anal leakage” into our lexicon) were also the results of experimentation.

For those of you who haven’t seen it (*cricket cricket*), Avatar is the story of just how pretty a jungle planet can look in 3D, and maybe there are some people fighting in it or whatever. It’s also a great refresher on some of your favorite 90s action movie dialogue clichés.

J!NX: 20% off to Celebrate “Talesworth Adventure”

from J!NX:

New J!NX Classic Tee: Release the Kraken Boxer Briefs
There are many beasts among the depths. Yet they should not be feared. Rather, they should be allowed to roam free, and not be caged in some stuffy dungeon. Sure, titans may clash and there will be casualties. That’s no reason to hold back the creatures that lurk below. All entendre aside, these boxer briefs will support your unmentionables better than a Harry Hamlin loincloth.

Talesworth Adventure
Sean “Jinx” Gailey has spent his free-time starting games since he was 7, and lately, he’s been getting into the habit of finishing them. His third game, Talesworth Adventure, is a puzzle game that challenges you to guide the fearless (and not very bright) Questy through 30 rooms of peril. It has already been mentioned on Kotaku, and is currently the featured game on Newgrounds. To celebrate, we’re offering 20% off all products from now until Sunday night. Just use code “QUESTY” during checkout. Not valid with any other offer or sale item.

ThinkGeek’s newest glowy umbrellas + $10 off

from ThinkGeek:

Dear Space Chimps,

Our intergalactic dreams came true when our monkeys toured NASA Goddard on Saturday and partied with some Stormtroopers and R2-D2 at Yuri’s Night. Timmy even got to kiss a rubber chicken and ride in a Tang purse.

But we know your squishy minion hearts are set on seeing certain April Fool’s Day items come to life. We are awash in a sea of your emails, tweets, and wall posts. Begging, pleading, crying delicious salty tears. No updates just yet, but we will say that some wishes will be granted…

Magical LED Umbrellas Usher in H2O Gravity Celebration
What’s that old saying about April showers? Oh yeah… it rains a lot in April but we’re supposed to be grateful for the rain because it makes flowers come out in May, if you’re into that kind of thing. But mostly, rain. It’s wet and it sucks to be out in it. Why not make your outdoor excursions simultaneously more dry AND awesome? Both of these umbrellas look like standard black umbrellas at first, but each has a special superpower. The Lumadot LED umbrella has dozens of blue LEDs that can be switched on to look like little glowy raindrops and the Blade Runner Style Umbrella’s LEDs are in the shaft, lighting the way through futuristic L.A. as you chase down replicants. Rain sucks, but don’t let it make YOU suck. That’s what we say. Battle rain in pure techie style right now.

Be Like the Hero of Canton in this New Jayne Cobb “Troublemaker” Replica T-Shirt!

from Quantum Mechanix:

Troublemaker
Let's Be Badguys!

Jayne Cobb — whether he’s your crappy town’s biggest hero or the guy who just clothes-lined some pee yen lookin’ to ruin your day — he’s the best good guy to have by your side when it’s time to be bad guys.

What Jayne is best known for, besides naming large weapons after girls and having a girl’s name his own self, is his vast collection of awesome t-shirts. And best known of these shirts is “Troublemaker”, an apt title for the man who made it famous.

For the first time ever, QMx has created an exact replica* of Jayne’s Troublemaker t-shirt. Troublemaker is made from a custom fine cotton jersey ringer with full front and wing pallet sleeve printing. The original Troublemaker shirt was printed on a crew neck Old Navy t-shirt — a t-shirt that’s no longer available. So QMx had to recreate the t-shirt from the ground-up — from the weave to the custom dyes color-matched to the original screen-worn shirt.

The artwork is printed with a 5-color process using plastisol heat-cured, deep-penetration inks. The shirt was silk-screened to spec, based off one of the screen-used shirts now owned by Propstore.com.

Troublemaker is available in men’s sizes only from S-3XL and starts at only $26.95.

* Sweat stains not included. Afraid you’ll have to add those the old-fashioned way.

VIZ Pictures Brings the High Flying Action of “K-20: The Fiend with Twenty Faces” to DVD

from VIZ Pictures:

VIZ Pictures, an affiliate of VIZ Media, LLC that focuses on Japanese live-action film distribution, will release the action film, K-20: The Fiend with Twenty Faces, on DVD on April 20th. The film will carry an MSRP of $24.92 U.S. / $35.99 CAN, and will be distributed exclusively across North America by VIZ Media.

Director Shimako Sato assembled a strong cast and used cutting edge special effects to bring K-20 to life. The movie is set in the fictional city of Teito in the late 1940s, in a world where World War II never happened and the nobility system established during the Meiji Era still exists. An extreme divide exists between the upper and lower classes, with 90 percent of the country’s wealth being held by the upper class. The capital of Teito is in crisis with the emergence of a menacing phantom thief known as “The Fiend (Kaijin) with Twenty Faces” or simply “K-20.” The film is based on The Story of Nijyumenso, a novel written by Soh Kitamura, and also features the mesmerizing theme song, Shock of the Lightning, by the British band Oasis.

Heikichi Endo (played by Takeshi Kaneshiro) is a circus acrobat who is deceived by K-20 and framed to take the fall for the phantom thief. Using his incredible physical dexterity, Heikichi wages war against K-20 in order to clear his name and fights alongside K-20’s next wealthy target, Duchess Yoko Hashiba (Takako Matsu) and her fiancée, the brilliant detective Kogoro Akechi (Toru Nakamura). But what is the ultimate decision Heikichi has to make?

Actor Takeshi Kaneshiro is internationally renowned and made his screen debut in the film Executioners (1993) followed by the critically acclaimed Wong Kar-Wai film Chungking Express (1994). More recently he has starred in films including House of Flying Daggers (2004) and The Battle of Red Cliff (2008).

To celebrate this new release, VIZ Pictures has also announced a special theatrical screening of K-20 at VIZ Cinema in San Francisco on April 20th at 7:00pm. Tickets are $25.00 and also will include a copy of the DVD, a K-20 poster and more! VIZ Cinema is located at: 1746 Post St., San Francisco, CA 94115. Tickets are available at the box office and online at vizcinema.com.

“The character of K-20 was originally born in the best-selling 26-volume Boy Detectives series, written by Japanese literary master Rampo Edogawa, and over the years the stories have been enjoyed by more than 100 million people,” says Seiji Horibuchi, President and CEO of VIZ Pictures. “The inspired film uses a potent mix of eye-catching visual effects and gravity-defying high wire stunts to bring the unique story to the screen with incredible results. We look forward to fans discovering this thrilling new action feature from VIZ Pictures.”
