Blizzcon 2011 and “Dragon Age: Redemption” Episode 2

from The Guild:

It’s that time of year – Blizzcon is here! Once again The Guild is pleased to be invited by the fine folks at Blizzard Entertainment to the annual two day gaming festival that sees gamers from around the world convene in Anaheim. This year is especially exciting because The Guild’s season 5 was written by Felicia as an homage to convention-going and gaming conventions. So the cast is especially excited to meet up with fans and hear how the fictional Megagame-O-Ramacon measured up to real life.

There will be no Guild panel this year, however we will have a booth with several signings scheduled (stay tuned to our Twitter and Facebook for schedule announcements). Cast members Vincent Caso, Felicia Day, Amy Okuda and Robin Thorsen will be in attendance. The cast will also be special guests at the Curse party Friday night (October 21, 2011) at the Hilton.

In other news, the second episode of Felicia’s newest web series, Dragon Age: Redemption is now live on the web via Machinima (catch the first episode here if you haven’t already):

Season 5 of The Guild has concluded, and we thank you, our loyal fans for the continued support. Did you have a favorite line or moment from this season? If so, please leave a comment – we do read them!

J!NX: Looking for a Costume?

from J!NX:

Perhaps the CREEPiest costume ever
Yes, the ever-loved celebration of Halloween is a scant few weeks away. Avoid the usual hassle of trying to come up with your own costume, and just take the easy way out – get one from us! You know you’re going to end up making the biggest splash at the party when you show up with this new Creeper head. Just don’t be surprised if you find it tough to mingle. People tend to try and keep you away from their nice everything when you have this on.

Steampunk + Zombie
Pardon me, good sirs and madams. I hope you take no umbrage at my person should I require sustenance. I thoroughly apologize, yet still find myself lacking in resisting this burning desire to partake of your, shall we say, grey matter. ‘Tis through the courage and resource of my clockwork raven, Alistair, that I am regularly able to find alternate sources of fuel for my locomotion, yet on increasing frequency am I finding myself consuming human remains. Perchance further experimentation with my metalcrafting will provide me long sought-after satisfaction.

“Professor Layton and the Last Specter” Overflows with Portable Puzzle Fun

from Nintendo of Canada:

New and experienced fans of the Professor Layton video game series don’t have to wait for Halloween to discover a wealth of eerie tricks and brain-teasing treats this season. Launching today for the Nintendo DS family of hand-held systems, the Professor Layton and the Last Specter game marks an extraordinary new chapter in the fan-favourite puzzle adventure franchise, featuring a prequel storyline that invites players to help the top-hatted professor solve his very first case. Professor Layton and the Last Specter features more puzzles than any previous series installment and a bonus role-playing game called Professor Layton’s London Life that lets fans immerse themselves in the Professor Layton universe like never before. This new game delivers hours upon hours of unique portable entertainment.

In Professor Layton and the Last Specter, distinguished scholar Hershel Layton has yet to become a world-famous master sleuth. Upon receiving a mysterious letter from an old friend, he travels to a rural town called Misthallery that’s said to be haunted by a nocturnal phantom. As players progress through the story by solving a wide variety of logic, slide, picture, number and language puzzles, they’ll also encounter Layton’s brainy assistant, Emmy Altava, and witness his first meeting with would-be apprentice Luke Triton. The game’s numerous puzzles intertwine with the storyline in clever ways and are suitable for all skill levels. Starting October 23, players can also download additional puzzles by connecting their Nintendo DS system to the Internet via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

“The huge variety of puzzles in Professor Layton and the Last Specter make it not only entertaining but also a terrific value,” said Ron Bertram, Nintendo of Canada’s vice-president and general manager. “With a bonus role-playing game that takes the experience even deeper, players can get to know Professor Layton and his universe in a fun, interactive way.”

In the Professor Layton’s London Life role-playing game — which comes included on each Professor Layton and the Last Specter Game Card — players can experience life in Little London and mingle with quirky characters from throughout the Professor Layton game series. With more than 100 hours of game play and an additional storyline to complete, players can customize their appearance and surroundings, work odd jobs or collect clues to help uncover the origins of a mysterious fairy. Professor Layton’s London Life can be played anytime; it does not require players to complete the main game first.

Previous games in the Professor Layton series include Professor Layton and the Curious Village (2008), Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (2009) and Professor Layton and the Unwound Future (2010). To date, more than 12 million Professor Layton games have been sold worldwide.

VIZ Media to Debut “Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha”, North America’s Only Near-Simultaneous Digital Manga Magazine

from VIZ Media:

VIZ Media, the largest distributor and licensor of anime and manga in North America, announces the countdown to the launch of Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha (Weekly SJ Alpha), a weekly serial anthology of some of the most popular manga series in the world: Bakuman, Bleach, Naruto, Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, One Piece, and Toriko. The first issue of Weekly SJ Alpha goes on sale January 30, 2012, and will be available through VIZManga.com and the VIZ Manga apps for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

Each new digital issue of Weekly SJ Alpha brings manga fans in North America the latest chapters of their favorite series only two weeks after it debuts in Japan’s massively popular Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. Currently,
Japanese releases are often several months to years ahead of North American print titles; Weekly SJ Alpha eliminates the delay in unprecedented fashion.

“Simultaneously publishing an official translation of the most popular comics magazine in the world has been a dream since manga publishing began in North America in the 1980s,” said Alvin Lu, Senior Vice President & General Manager. “This is how manga is meant to be read in English – weekly, current, authorized and on the go. Now with Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha, it’s about to happen for real.”

Weekly SJ Alpha will be made available through an annual membership that provides access to 48 weekly issues for 52 weeks for just $25.99. Single issues of Weekly SJ Alpha can be read for a four-week rental from the time the reader purchases it for only $0.99. Each issue, once received on one device, can be read on all other enabled devices through the easy-to-use integrated VIZ Manga app and website.

To prepare fans for the debut of Weekly SJ Alpha, VIZ Media is also offering the Shonen Jump Digital Warp, a limited collection of digital graphic novel speed-ups that will bring North American readers up-to-date with Japanese releases. In some cases, the digital speed-ups will jump ahead of the print releases in North America. The Shonen Jump Digital Warp will begin with Naruto Volume 53 (available now) and Bleach Volume 49 (coming soon).

As more fans migrate to the digital Weekly SJ Alpha edition, VIZ Media plans to phase out the print edition of Shonen Jump Magazine. The popular, one-of-a-kind monthly magazine led the rapid growth of the manga market for much of the last decade and was VIZ Media’s flagship publication since it launched in 2003. The farewell April 2012 issue hits newsstands March 2012.

Darth Maul Returns to the “Star Wars” Saga This Spring!

from StarWars.com:

Darth Maul, the sinister Sith Lord who amped up the dark side in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, returns to the Saga this spring in Star Wars: The Clone Wars!

Revered by fans for his striking red and black tattooed-face, graceful but lethal fighting style, and signature double-bladed lightsaber, Maul was believed killed by Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi at the end of Episode I. In the Star Wars universe, however, one must never underestimate the power of the dark side!

“The decision to continue Darth Maul’s story was something that came directly from George,” says Dave Filoni, Supervising Director of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. “We all agreed that his return needed to be unique, unexpected and revenge filled. We don’t know what his outcome will be, and as a fan – that’s exciting.”

While fans await Darth Maul’s return to The Clone Wars, they’ll soon be able to experience the excitement of his original introduction to the Star Wars Saga when Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace is released in theaters on February 10, 2012 in spectacular 3D!

The trailer for Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace in 3D will be attached to The Three Musketeers on October 21st and on select films throughout the holidays.
